Hi I got my sewing machine today and I’m just learning machine and the stitches but im having a big problem the thread keeps bunching up in the back I watched the DVD over and over again and it say that my thread isn’t thread right but I followed what they said do you think I made a bad choice in buy the singer esteem 2?
TheCraftyGemini says
@devrenee2 I don’t have any experience with that specific model or machine. Check your tension settings… read your manual to make sure its set to the right number. You may want to call the customer service line that is mentioned in the manual for that machine. Good luck!

I would like to know what kind of fabric should I buy to pratice with
TheCraftyGemini says
@devrenee2 Any 100% cotton fabric would be best to start with. You can buy some cheap fabric at a big store and play with that until you get the hang of it.
devrenee2 says
Can you make a beginners video on how in a straight line and how to hold the fabric so you can get a straight stitch and so far I learned how to use the foot paddle meaning I can control my speed and I made my 4 year old a blanket but I just need to get my lines straight. Thank You
devrenee2 says
Sorry how to sew In a straight line
devrenee2 says
Hola thecraftygemini todavía estoy tratando de que mi puntadas rectas, pero me parece que no puede hacer las cosas bien cada día lo intento en intento, pero que wount salga bien hay una forma en que debe sostener la tela.
TheCraftyGemini says
@devrenee2 You should watch my “getting started” video. You have to follow a guide on your machine. Either the edge of your presser foot or one of the marking lines on the throat plate of your machine. If you feed the fabric straight you should get straight stitches. Make sure your presser foot is down so the fabric is clamped down and isn’t moving all over the place by itself. Good luck.
devrenee2 says
I’m doing that but the fabric keeps going it’s own direction and im not looking at the needle cause you said not to bug for some reason my line isn’t coming out right but i’m still trying

devrenee2, are you holding onto both your top and bottom thread when you start the machine? If you don’t hold them for the first few stitches, they will bunch up and knot up sometimes. Hold onto them for a couple of stitches, and them let them go. Try that.

Excellent tut I love your step by step.

I accidently forgot to buy pins , is there a subsitute i can use to do this?
TheCraftyGemini says
@glampie05 You could just hold it steady and sew slowly to make sure the fabric doesn’t move on you as you sew. You could also use a regular craft glue stick and just dab the fabric lightly so it will hold in place as you sew. Be sure not to put too much. You just want a little dot here and there to help you keep the edges together. Hope this helps! Happy sewing!
SNOOPY5922 says
where can you buy the pins because i tried the swapmeet and they didnt know what i was talking about?
TheCraftyGemini says
@SNOOPY5922 You can buy sewing pins pretty much anywhere… I’ve even seen them at my local supermarket. Try stores like walmart, target, any craft or fabric shop, Michael’s, etc.
hgutty121 says
Hey, where can I find that fabric cutter you’re using? What is it called?
TheCraftyGemini says
@hgutty121 It’s called a rotary cutter and any local craft or fabric store has it. Watch my video on “Cutting Basics” where I go over the basic cutting supplies you need with it. Hope this helps. :o)
