Essential Oils for High Blood Sugar Levels

There are many essential oils that are helpful to diabetics, and this essential oils list will be helpful for those patients with high blood sugar levels, and who would like to reduce them through natural means.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon essential oil is more potent than its powder form. This oil is helpful in preventing sugar cravings. It also helps reduce the temptation to overeat. One study showed that cinnamon helps improve insulin sensitivity and blood pressure levels among diabetics.

Using a diffuser, inhale the scent of cinnamon essential oil. Inhaling this essential oil is one way of reducing your cravings for sugary foods. If you want to use it topically, make sure to blend it with a carrier oil first.

It is also safe to ingest cinnamon essential oil. For better health, mix it with organic oil that does not contain any chemicals or toxins.

Black Seed

Black seed is also referred to in Traditional Medicine as Nigella sativa. Recent research reveals that its essential oil is useful in treating high blood sugar.

It has been found to contain antioxidants that can help fight against the adverse effects of oxidative stress, resulting in a reduced risk for diabetes-related complications.

One study suggests that black seed can be used as a reliable treatment for people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Almost a hundred diabetic study participants were given 1 to 3 grams of black seed every day for more than three months.

The results showed that those who took two grams of black seeds experienced significant improvement in their glycemic control.

However, pregnant women and those who are about to undergo surgery must avoid using black seed essential oil.

Ocotea

Ocotea Essential Oil is helpful in stabilizing a person’s blood sugar levels. The active compounds of ocotea aid in the functioning of the pancreas. It is also known to improve digestion.

Just mix a few drops of ocotea essential oil in boiled water, then you can drink as a tea. It can also be diffused, inhaled or applied topically. Make sure to apply the necessary precautions, and if you have any doubts, please consult an expert.

Myrrh

The active compounds of myrrh essential oil are found to help keep blood sugar levels in check. Another benefit is that many diabetics are prone to dry skin, and this oil improves elasticity while reducing dryness.

Its healing properties are attributed to its antioxidant content. It is helpful in boosting the immune system because it stimulates the production of antibodies and other immune cells.

Although generally regarded as safe to use, this oil isn’t recommended for children below 6 years of age or for pregnant women. For faster healing of wounds, this oil can be applied topically.

Coriander

The coriander seed oil has two powerful effects for diabetics.

” Firstly, its active compounds manifest insulin-like activity within the body at a cellular level.
” Secondly, it helps facilitate the release of insulin from the pancreas.

Findings from studies showed that coriander is helpful in reducing the levels of triglycerides. It can also improve LDL, HDL, and total cholesterol levels.

Mix coriander essential oil with a carrier oil. Apply this mixture to the soles of a diabetic’s feet. Make this an everyday habit. You may also do this treatment to the pancreas area and apply a warm compress afterward.

Little Know Oils For Life

Cloves

Cloves possess glucose-lowering properties that make it beneficial for diabetics. This essential oil has been found helpful in purifying the blood while also regulating blood glucose levels and cholesterol levels.

Cloves contain phenol compounds that work to control the levels of insulin while improving how the body responds to glucose. Clove oil blends well with cinnamon essential oil, making it a perfect addition for a diabetic’s aromatherapy treatment plan.

Its antioxidant content, referred to by experts as eugenol, works well in reducing inflammation. It also helps alleviate numbness that is usually experienced in the hands and feet of diabetics.

Safe Usage of Essential Oils for Diabetes

Essential oils contain chemicals that are both volatile and potent, and not taking the right precautions can or may cause potentially unwanted side effects. This is why it is important to use essential oils in a safe manner.

Their active compounds can have contraindications with your diabetes medications. Other essential oils can induce sedative effects when used with certain medicines, so due care is required.

There are also essential oils that boost the diuretic effects of prescription medications and this can be dangerous, especially to those who have low blood pressure problems.

Essential oils used for topical application may be deemed as safe, but there are still special considerations that need to be taken into account. Note that the skin is the body’s largest organ, and is capable of absorbing essential oils that may affect internal organs.
Therefore, if you are taking medications, essential oils may cause adverse reactions to those medications.

Use Diluted Essential Oils When You Start

This is important. Start with a very small, diluted dose. To do this, use a carrier oil. The amount of carrier oil should not be less than 2 ounces. If you decide to use the essential oils for aromatherapy, pour only a few drops into your diffuser and don’t use this for more than 15 minutes.

Use with Caution!

Avoid the tendency of exposing yourself to the essential oil too much, especially when you start. There are times when you may love a certain scent, however, it may trigger unwanted responses. For example, it may trigger a stress response which will not help your diabetes at all.

Use Essential Oils From A Safe Manufacturer

Essential oils can be found offline and online – almost everywhere! However, only purchase essential oils from reputable sellers or manufacturers. It also pays to buy oils that are labeled as being pure and organic. Stay away from essential oils that are not 100% natural, otherwise, you run the risk of experiencing harmful side effects. Before you buy any essential oil, read the label first!

Use Storage Care

Essential oils must be stored in a cool, dry place. It is also best to store them in a dark place, as essential oils can lose their potency when exposed to light.

Essential Oils to AVOID for Diabetes

One specific essential oil that has been deemed unsafe by many when used for diabetes is Angelica Essential oil. This oil is not recommended for internal use for people with diabetes. It is not safe for those with intestinal and/or stomach ulcers.

Diabetics need to take extra care with their skin as a simple irritation can lead to developing a wound. This wound may take time to heal, therefore, some essential oils should not be used for skin application. Examples of these are lemon balm, ginger, turmeric, jasmine, neroli, geranium, and mint.

If you are a diabetic who has problems with high blood pressure, it is best to avoid using rosemary, thyme, sage, and hyssop essential oils.

Prolonged use is not recommended for other types of essential oils. These include common sage, wintergreen, red thyme, sassafras, and tansy.

Don’t treat any essential oil as if it was a perfume in a bottle, because it is not. Essential oils work like medicines. This is why ingesting any can be dangerous if not administered correctly, and therefore must only be done under the advice and supervision of an aromatherapist or your health care professional.
