Dallas Cowboys Practice Facility Collapses – 05-2-2009
May 2, 2009 – IRVING, Texas — Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was among 12 people injured Saturday when 64 mph winds — just shy of tornado strength — ripped through the roof of the team’s indoor practice facility during a rookie minicamp Saturday. Dr. Paul Pepe, head of emergency medical services for Dallas County, says he didn’t think anybody had life-threatening injuries DeCamillis was seen putting on a neck brace and being taken out of the team’s main office building on a stretcher. Coach Wade Phillips told the Dallas Morning News that DeCamillis suffered a neck injury, but was moving his hands and talking at the hospital. Phillips also said that some of the players had minor injuries. Assistant coach Brett Maxie suffered a laceration on his leg, a source told ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley. Team scout Chris Hall suffered multiple arm injuries after being trapped underneath the frame, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Ten of the injured were taken by emergency vehicles. Two others went to hospitals on their own. Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said all players and coaches were accounted for. The roof came down at about 4:30 pm ET during a severe thunderstorm while the team was going through the second day of a three-day rookie minicamp. At the time, 27 rookies were going through the workout and there were about 70 people in the facility, counting coaches, other team personnel and media, officials said.
